I visited a club called Shanghai in Edinburgh, of all places, on a stag do last weekend. Good club. And full of Chinese, a neat special effect that no lights or video screens could match. The DJ, who was pretty good, was mixing partly off video, which was interesting. Or at least, screens at the back of the club showed videos synchronized with the tracks (and filler material, for some tracks which were presumably played off CD or mp3). A bright red macbook was involved, I can say that much. I'm okay with that, hope you are too. This month's mix marks a couple of other changes of direction, too. It was mixed more off-the-cuff than the others were and feels, to me, more spontaneous for it. Less scripted and perhaps also less directed: it's basically just what I currently feel like playing. After a month off for good behaviour, we're straight back onto the ones and twos this month for a slippery summer cocktail with a few more deep 'n dirty South African flavours shaken in.
